Structure. We are a small organisation; light on our feet in the UK in order to have a larger impact in Africa.  We choose to work with international and African organisations and associates whose priorities match our own.

SOS Sahel UK's head office is in Oxford, UK, where there are two paid staff: the UK Representative and UK Finance Manager, who is based within SOS Sahel Sudan in Khartoum from November 2009. The UK Representative is supported periodically by volunteers, graduate interns, and by consultants contracted to carry out time-bound pieces of project work.

SOS Sahel UK also has an office in Sudan, headed by a Country Director, with approximately 30 staff working on seven major donor-funded projects.

Transformation

In 2003 we embarked on an ambitious and exciting process of transformation in which we devolved governance to Africa as part of our commitment to the principles of African leadership and African-led development. National NGOs with African boards are now operating successfully in Mali, Niger, and Ethiopia. In Kenya, the former SOS Sahel UK programme has been integrated within the work of an existing NGO, Resource Projects Kenya. Governance of the programme in Sudan remains temporarily the responsibility of SOS Sahel UK with the same long-term aspiration for an independent African organisation in Sudan.
