'Climate Change and Conflict' |

Salomé Bronkhorst, Senior Researcher at ACCORD (The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes) recently wrote a paper entitled ‘Climate Change and Conflict: Lessons for Conflict Resolution from the Southern Sahel of Sudan’. This paper focuses particularly on South Kordofan and looks at how to develop interventions and policies to address environment-related conflicts and to move towards conflict-sensitive climate change adaptation. In doing so, the paper makes frequent reference to SOS Sahel’s work in South Kordofan on capacity building of community organisations, conflict management training, and the development and management of water sources such as sand dams and hafirs (reservoirs). Expansion into the Abyei livestock corridor, Sudan |
With funding from Humanity United, SOS Sahel is pleased to announce the expansion of its conflict reduction work into a key livestock corridor in western Kordofan, which borders South Sudan (Abyei) and Darfur. Here, we have begun working with Misseriyya pastoralists, Dinka farmers, local government and the Native Administration to find a low-cost, long-lasting way to reduce tension at community level and reduce the risk of armed conflict recurring. |
